Need and motivation of the project:
The study represented process development work required for the Mustavaara project and was part of the Feasibility Study.

Main set targets:
In the study laboratory scale experiments were used to define the quality of the pellets of the Mustavaara process. The target was also to define the mineralogical and micro-structural transformation paths as well as the behaviour of titanium and vanadium during the high temperature oxidation and pre-reduction processes involved.

Key results and impact: The results of the study, the fundamental phenomena based data, can be directly used to improve and optimize the operation of the different process steps and finally to optimize the energy consumption of the pre-reduction and smelting processes.

Commercialization status (demos, pilotings, investments, products, services): not yet in production
